Game Fabric high quality, low latency network

Customer Background

A renowned game development studio, committed to creating high-quality games and enjoying a good reputation in the gaming industry. The studio's games cover various types, including action-adventure, role-playing, shooting, etc. They focus on the storytelling, visual presentation, and innovative gameplay of their games, striving to bring players a unique and unforgettable gaming experience. As the top project for 2024, they are developing a MOBA shooting game to be released globally, expected to be launched in more than 60 regions. To ensure players have the best experience, they require a network with low latency and high stability.

Customer Needs

Multi-cloud core node area coverage: Need to quickly connect to the global Equinix Fabric accessible network of well-known cloud vendors (such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Tencent Cloud) and establish a highly stable link.
Edge coverage: Expand Equinix Fabric through suppliers to deploy at the required edge nodes to get closer to players. For example, deploying a battle server in a certain area of the Middle East.
Fast problem discovery capability: Facing multiple clouds, multiple vendors, multiple regions, and multiple links, there is a need to quickly discover and locate problems. For this, a monitoring system is needed that can notify through multiple channels.
Reduce the procurement and operation costs of dedicated lines.

Solution

In terms of core area coverage (Game fabric core), we cooperate with Equinix to pre-deploy high-quality, low-latency lines in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific core areas. By cooperating with Tencent Cloud, we can not only achieve shared physical lines but also achieve tenant isolation. In addition, network products provided by well-known cloud vendors (such as Cloud Connect, Transit Gateway, V-WAN, GCR, etc.) can connect multiple backbone networks in the cloud.

When the studio needs to use cross-cloud dedicated lines, we can quickly establish the required cross-cloud connections. In the past, the studio needed to spend several months to achieve multi-cloud connections, but by accessing Gamefabric, we can create shared channels in a few hours, achieve fast cross-cloud connections, and increase the backbone network SLA to 99.999%.

In terms of extending edge nodes (Gamefabric edge), we are committed to covering areas that well-known cloud vendors cannot cover. Edge nodes can be bare metal areas of operators or areas of other public clouds (such as Alibaba Cloud, Mushroom Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, etc.).

To achieve dynamic expansion of edge coverage, we cooperate with operators such as Equinix, Zenlayer, and EdgeNext Carriers. These operators are directly connected to cloud vendors in multiple places around the world and provide computing power for edge nodes. By calling the operators' APIs, we can automatically create and manage these edge resources. In this way, we can flexibly expand edge nodes to meet the needs of different regions. It is possible to cover hundreds of areas.

To achieve fast real-time observation of network dynamics and timely discovery of problems, we adopt a full-link monitoring approach. The MCNP team has developed nMetric, which covers all objects from the source to the destination, from the physical layer to the application layer, through multi-dimensional and all-round monitoring.

Through nMetric, the data we can collect will be cleaned, calculated, and stored through Elastic Search. Then, we use Kibana for large screen display, report generation, and setting alarm notifications. Our alarm notification system is connected with opsgenie, email, enterprise WeChat, SMS, and telephone to ensure timely notification of relevant personnel.

With such a monitoring and alarm system, we can fully observe the state of the network and quickly discover and take corresponding measures when problems occur. This helps to ensure the stability and reliability of the network.

In addition to providing the above products, the MCNP team also provides close technical support throughout the entire life cycle of the project, including business demand analysis, solution design, delivery implementation, and daily emergencies, to ensure the stable operation of Gamefabric, thereby achieving business goals and sustainable development.

At the same time, because Game Fabric core achieves multi-game sharing and cost sharing in the physical line part, it brings cost savings to the studio. After the studio migrated from its own line to Game Fabric, it achieved varying degrees of line cost savings, achieving up to 60% savings in some areas.

Customer Feedback

Game Fabric helps the studio to quickly set up the network and provide a highly reliable backbone and edge network, improving the efficiency of distribution in new large areas. At the same time, the intimate service and timely response of the OIT network team make operations more reassuring.
